Start and manage conversations
Updated August 14, 2026
You need a current supervision connection or another active Motivo interaction with the recipient before you can start a conversation.
Start a conversation
Use messaging for scheduling, supervision coordination, and questions about your work together.
- Select Messages from the main navigation.
- Start a new conversation and choose the recipient in the To: field.
- Enter your message in Type a message (shift+enter to insert a new line).
- Select the send icon.
You can also open a supervisor under Supervisors and select Send message. If a conversation with the same active participants already exists, Motivo opens that history rather than creating a duplicate.
Read and reply
Unread conversations are marked in the message list. Open a conversation to load its timeline and update its read state. New messages normally appear without refreshing, though the message list may take a short time to update after a connection interruption.
Press Enter to send, or use Shift+Enter to add a new line. Keep messages limited to the information needed for supervision and scheduling.
Who appears as a recipient
Your available recipients come from your current supervision relationships, active intro-call activity, and employer-sponsored program connections. You cannot use Motivo messaging as a general directory for any account.
If a supervisor is missing, confirm that the relationship or call is still active. A pending account or ended relationship can remove the person from the new-conversation list.
When supervision ends
After a supervision relationship ends, the shared conversation becomes inactive. You can keep access to earlier messages, but you cannot send new messages or see messages added after you were removed from a group conversation.
Message history is not deleted when supervision ends. Save any scheduling or professional information you need before requesting the relationship change.
