Manage notifications and recommendation requests

Updated August 14, 2026

You need to be logged in to change notification settings, and you need a request from a supervisor before you can write a recommendation.

Change notification settings

Choose the available channel for each type of update.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Notifications.
  3. Review each notification category.
  4. Select or clear the Email and SMS checkboxes available for each item.
  5. Select Save changes.

SMS options require a valid US phone number in General settings. Some essential account or service messages may be sent outside these preference controls.

Unread-message reminders can be sent by email and, when available, SMS. Opening the conversation updates its read state.

Write a recommendation

A supervisor can ask you to write a recommendation after you have worked together. The request appears in your dashboard and may also arrive by email.

  1. Open the request while logged in.
  2. Enter 40 to 200 words in Recommendation.
  3. Decide whether to select the optional consent allowing Motivo to share the recommendation in other communications.
  4. Select Submit.

The supervisor reviews the recommendation before it can appear on their public profile. Your optional sharing consent is separate from the supervisor's decision to display it there.

Dismiss a request

If you do not want to write one, select I don’t want to write a recommendation. Review Dismiss recommendation request? and select Yes, dismiss request.

Dismissal cannot be undone, and the supervisor is not notified. You can dismiss only before you have submitted a recommendation.

Log in with the supervisee account that received the request. A completed or dismissed request cannot be submitted again from the same link.
